Following the huge success of the 2015 Snickers ‘Brady Bunch’ spot, BBDO, O Positive Director Jim Jenkins, and The Mill once again teamed up, this time for Super Bowl 50.
In the next iteration of the brand’s global “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” campaign, the 2016 spot puts a modern twist on the iconic dress scene from ‘The Seven Year Itch’.
As the spot opens, we see Willem Dafoe as a hungry, and therefore cranky, Marilyn Monroe™. The starlet is only transformed back into her usual self after receiving a Snickers bar to satisfy her hunger.
The Mill’s 2D artists were involved in stages of the project’s development, allowing the team to choose specific scenes from the film that would help bring Marilyn Monroe™ to life. Much the same as the Brady Bunch commercial, the “Marilyn” spot also splices in old footage rather than using a look-alike actor. To find an exceptional mouth double, the team studied the film's footage frame by frame, making subtle adjustments to Marilyn Monroe's™ mouth, teeth and lips.
2D Lead Artist Nathan Kane comments, "Working with the same team from last year and the established relationship was a huge help. Having a cohesive, creative team that worked and trusted each other was key in bringing Marilyn Monroe™ to life."
