As a part of their continued 'Be There' campaign, BT looked to instill an essence of magic in this particular spot and to paint a metaphor for the messages exchanged between people.
Working alongside Director Frederic Planchon, The Mill helped to create the CG paper planes which soar and float between users, all with their own style. We see a variety of scenarios amongst the users from football celebrations to the exchange of bigger, more meaningful messages, all of which are represented in the design of the planes.
Mill 2D Artist Alex Hammond explains 'All the planes had different personalities to represent the ‘message’ that was being sent by the individuals. These ranged from small ‘emoji’ style text messages right through to a gigantic love note sent across the city. Each plane was meticulously crafted with bespoke animation.'
The spot plays to a wonderfully poppy version of Madness's song 'It Must Be Love' and it was important that this upbeat feel was present in all elements.
Mill Head of Colour Seamus O'Kane states 'The sense of normal transformed by our relationships into a more beautiful reality was the underlying principal for this grade. The fullness of each frame creates a texture that delights the eye and the colour palette allows for the sense of time and place to shift in a natural fashion.
It was a seamless collaboration of Mill workflows and departments that let each discipline add considered impact to the final film It was a pleasure to work with Director Frederic Planchon over our remote link and be part of this project'.
