The skills of our Lead Flame artist Gareth Brannan were required in a number of the short's set up's. During our Lady Dior's striptease, Marion Cotillard as Lady Dior needed to appear as though she was shot inside an hourglass. Gareth supervised the FX shots on location then later back at The Mill carefully crafted various plates together and restored the sand around Lady Dior to bring these comps together.
For the London Eye set up, CG, matte paintings and Flame were required. On the shoot, Gareth shot hi-res still references for the matte painters and CG artists to work with. Lady Dior herself was shot separately from the location on green screen and was later posted into the scene. To realise director John's vision in this set up, we need to have full control of the 'Eye' so a CG model was built and animated to accompany the matte painting background and live action plates of London.
Our VFX producer Chris Batten adds: "It's a huge privilege to be working with such an accomplished director as John Cameron Mitchell. He was involved every step of the way helping us to develop the look and feel of the film, especially in the final grade with Seamus."
