"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you'd miss it!"-Ferris Bueller. Twenty six years after Ferris Bueller's Day Off debuted, Matthew Broderick's breaking-the-fourth-wall witticism still rings true in RPA's Super Bowl spot for Honda's CR-V. Broderick stars in 'Day Off,' the homage to John Hughes' beloved coming of age film which takes that advice and encourages drivers to "get going." Moxie Pictures' Todd Phillips (The Hangover) directs with VFX and telecine from The Mill.

While Honda CR-V 'Day Off' is set in L.A. instead of Chicago, certain scenes will still ring a bell among viewers. Broderick faking sick to take a day off, Broderick enjoying an adventure in a museum and Broderick unsuspectingly handing his very cool car over for safekeeping only to have it be taken out for a joy ride, all parody scenes from the classic original film.
Our Lead 2D Artist Andy Bate says, "It was a unique opportunity, being a kid in the '80s, to work on something so reminiscent of my childhood." In addition to general cleanup across the spot, Bate and his team were tasked with incorporating as many references from the film as possible into the spot-"hidden Easter eggs"-for the die-hard Ferris Bueller movie buffs.
Adam Scott, The Mill's Head of Telecine, graded this highly anticipated Super Bowl pleaser. "I had a great experience working with DoP Larry Sher on 'Day Off,' Scott says. "We set a filmic look while enhancing the car and balancing Matthew as he moved through the different environments."
When asked about what specifically drove the project's success, it was Bate who didn't hesitate: "I was inspired spotting more of those hidden Easter eggs with every viewing," he says. "And there was loads of coffee and soul music to bring it all home!"
