Hoards of spirited young men and women run into position in various formations, eventually creating a birds-eye portrait using only themselves as pixels. Creative director Chris Knight spoke to us about the filming process and inspiration behind the concept.
Knight comments: "We shot for three days at El Mirage, a dry lakebed. The majority of the work was done in two massive shots - we only had about 100 extras, so lots of the people you see running around from above are entirely in CG. The result ended up resembling the artwork of a guy named Craig Alan who uses figures of people to create portraits of icons like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn."
While the massive shots included some CG elements, Knight adds, "The tire tracks were real! People like to take their four-by-fours out there. We liked them so we left them in."
