The video embraces a short film-style feel and opens with the execution of an inmate by lethal injection while Twigs sings her song 'Preface', the first track on the album, hauntingly in the background. The dark, twisted energy is carried throughout the prologue and through the entirety of 'Video Girl' as Twigs dances around the room in choreographed convulsions in between cuts of grittier, dimmer scenery. Musician Travis Scott makes a short, bloody appearance, making the video a mentally challenging piece to watch, but even more challenging to look away.
Adam Scott, head of color in The Mill's LA studio, augmented the black and white video to add different levels of intensity to the scenery. Scott comments: "'Video Girl' was shot on a RED camera in black and white, giving the film more authentic depth from the beginning. Usually black and white spots are shot in color and converted. I enhanced the different settings throughout so it wasn't all completely smooth - I think that translates the mood well. It was great working with Jason [McCormick, director of photography] on such a powerful piece."
'Video Girl' comes from Twigs' debut album, LP1.
