This bespoke fashion film was influenced by the five main elements found in Chinese culture. Each one, from fire to water, was represented by a model in unique makeup and original sound effects by Finger Music.
Lead designer Tetsuro Mise designed each Chinese symbol to have the literal effect of the element: "My goal was to have a bold, dynamic attitude for each design. It needed to read clearly and be understandable to the viewer that didn't know the language. I wanted to push the look to show how beautiful each element could be, and give the character life."
Mill colourist Mikey Rossiter created the different looks for each element. Mikey adds: "I approached it as a high-fashion Mill Beauty project, paying close attention to the amount of light on each model's face. Small contrasts in the lighter tones were pushed to bring out the details in the dusty and crumbling look for 'earth' and 'wind.' For 'fire' the saturation and luminance were pushed for a hot and fiery feeling. It was key that each element felt like it was in a singular environment."
Each model perfectly represents their respective elements: fire, wind, water, earth, and void.
