The expressive art film set in Tokyo, away from the commercial and flamboyant imagery the west is so used to. The film pairs grainy black and white visuals with Shuya Masuda’s poetic sinister narrative.
Director Taichi Kimura conveys various abstract ideas within the compelling 9-minute short film; one being a protest against the negative perception of mental health- by incorporating a nostalgic view of the modern, Japanese youth’s internal struggle. The short also contains a candid performance of Japanese rapper Jin Dogg.
Mill Colourist Thomas Mangham explains: “We went for a strong and contrast black and white look whilst trying to create a glow effect in the highlights.”
