Working closely with Hogarth Worldwide and Directors dom&nic from Outsider, Mill Colourist Dave ‘Luddy’ Ludlam helped bring to life this Heinz spot which transports the viewer through the ages.
The spot shows the use of Heinz ketchup through the ages, focusing on how the brand has helped clean plates for over 150 years, featuring vignettes from throughout the ages.
Colourist Dave ‘Luddy’ Ludlam explains ‘This was a great piece to grade. As a colourist, it was a dream to grade with dom&nic because the crux of the spot revolves around the colour look. The idea was to capture around 14 different looks to represent the 150 year transition of the Heinz brand. We started off in the early 1900s, with a period-piece feel, then moving through the decades until we reached a much more modern look. It was about making every vignette different and recognisable, and the grade was a really important part of the storytelling in the spot as the bottle moved through all these periods. We kept pushing until we got to something that told a powerful story in every vignette. There was a lot of freedom to play with colours and contrast, which made the piece great fun to work on – an absolute pleasure.’
