In collaboration with The Smalls and Directors Dario & Dom from COMPULSORY, The Mill helped to create this short charity spot for Into Film.
This short film follows the story of two siblings who create a movie together from scratch. We see them using the environment around them and the tools they have available in creative ways to get the shots and looks that they want for their film – building props and filming equipment, creating costumes from old clothes and even setting up their backyard as a movie theatre.
Unfortunately, their parents don’t seem to appreciate all the effort they have put into the creation of their movie, and we are left heartbroken for the kids, wishing they had a better audience.
2D Lead Artist Holly McClean comments “The team graded and created VFX to subtly enhance telling this family story which is an analogy for film piracy”.
The Mill Colourist Alex Gregory adds "It was a pleasure to work Compulsory and the directors Dario & Dom on this highly creative, narrative driven piece. The aim for the grade was to enhance the colourful world of the children's play and creativity through a number of different looks at each stage of the story. We settled on a palette of pastel colours, punctuated with some harder blues to set the mood for the film, and worked to make sure each scene was vibrant and appealing."
