The spot sees a group of friends laughing and drinking in a bar before one of them begins to pour a bottle of Guinness Shand into a glass.The spot then delves into the glass, using clever and complex liquid simulation to explore the journey of the liquid and the refreshing taste of Guinness.
Director Aidan Gibbons states ‘Visualising an ‘impossible journey’ of Guinness inside a glass, is certainly one of the most exciting briefs I’ve ever been given. Myself and the VFX team dove straight in, working closely with AMVBBDO to craft what that journey might look like.
Before we even started, we researched the dynamics, colour, scale and texture of Guinness at great lengths, to give us a huge repository of reference.
Concept art was very important in this process. Early on, I was keen to explore different scales inside of the glass, allowing us to be transported into another world underneath the surface. This huge world scale allowed the camera to roam and soar through the liquid, and enabled us to take in those time-ramped moments.
We've ended up with an incredibly authentic, cinematic film, that everyone involved is really proud of.’
