Working with Icelandic agency, Islenska Auglysingastofan and directing duo Samuel & Gunnar out of SKOT Productions, The Mill graded this beautiful piece exploring an incredible story of a young girl’s football passion.
The spot tackles the issue of gender equality in sports through the presentation of a young girl who receives a pink pair of shoes for Christmas. What she really wants are the football boots her brother was given.
One day she decides she only wants to play football, and so steals her brother’s shoes. The viewer sees her football career develop over years, working hard at her dream, until finally at the climax of the spot we see her playing football in the Laugardalsvöllur stadium.
Mill Head of Colour, Seamus O’Kane explains, ‘The basic narrative of girls struggling for recognition and equality within football is elegantly wrapped within these beautifully evocative images that embrace the sparse harshness of both landscape and commitment.
With a deliberate palette and density that produces a delicate but intense enhancement Samuel & Gunnar weave a captivating film that erupts into a joyous finale.
It is so rewarding to evolve such a crafted cinematic piece whilst working with talented people. I really enjoyed this grade.’
