The Mill collaborated with Wieden+Kennedy (Portland) and Director Steve Ayson of MJZ to deliver the explosive visuals in Nike ‘Cliff’. The spot follows an ambitious athlete whose routine pushes her to the very edge.
The Mill’s Creative Director, Tim Davies, worked closely with 2D Lead Artist Andy Dill and Matte Painter Andy Wheater to enhance the daunting cliff. Andy Dill comments, “Before I got into time warping and roto, I tried leaving the main bits in place, but made it look like the floor was just a ledge that the car hit on its way down. Andy Wheater took my temp test and skillfully applied matte painting to change the landscape where the vehicle lands in a fireball of car death.”
The 2D artists added extra fire elements to the massive explosion to further increase the feel of the vertical space, as well as extensive clean-up to remove any signs of civilization to showcase the vast, uninhabited landscape.
