Fans of Baz Luhrmann's films, notably 'Romeo+Juliet', 'Moulin Rouge' and 'The Great Gatsby', will recognize his signature style in every corner of "You're the One That I Want". The story is told through vignettes of Gisele's life during a tumultuous day, as she discovers the contents of a letter left by her husband. The beautifully rendered snapshots of life and happy ending do not disappoint.
The scope of the film shoot spanned from New York to Tahiti. Every frame was tweaked from the sparkle of the diamond earring, re-decorating the inside of a nightclub, and the graffiti-ing New York's famous Freeman's Alley.
VFX supervisor/2D lead artist Corey Brown comments: "This was a unique venture, from the imagery to the way the post-process was handled. Usually, we receive a finished edit of a spot, and then begin the VFX work. With this project, we collaborated alongside Baz, his creative partner Catherine Martin, Revolver and editor, Jonathan Redmond. At The Mill we developed an entirely new workflow in order to give Baz the maximum amount of flexibility right up to delivery. As the edit progressed, we tightened our shots in length and quality, until the two met at a glorious completion point."
The Mill's VFX and Beauty teams, working side-by-side with Baz and Catherine in New York, along with designers at Bazmark in Sydney, created a structure spanning the globe, working across all Mill offices. Leveraging the collective horsepower of The Mill's global presence, the international production of this gorgeous film came together beautifully.
"The CHANEL woman can be with herself on a beach, can be with her child, can have an aspirational and fulfilling work life, and at the same time she can have a true relationship; she can have romance," says Baz. "And in the end, the CHANEL woman chooses love."
