The Mill teamed up with Venables Bell & Partners and Director Henry Hobson of Furlined to showcase the future of television viewing in ‘Rules’ for PlayStation Vue. The action-packed spot parodies some of today’s most popular shows to convey the rapid advancement hitting the streaming industry, showing dramatic change in the way audiences receive content.
The Mill’s VFX team utilized Maya, Flame and Nuke to create the complexities within the spot, complete with cars aflame, empty gravesites and battle scenes. The team sought to fill the spot with visual stimuli, notably filling an empty stadium shot in Mexico City with a sold-out crowd of CG people. Artists also used matte painting and compositing to create the closing landscape and brilliant blue twinkling lights.
The Mill’s Shoot Supervisor and Creative Director John Leonti enjoyed the collaboration with DP Greig Fraser and Hobson. John comments, “While there were multiple intricacies, the piece came together easily under the creative vision of Greig, and was very nicely directed by Henry, as usual.”
