Working alongside Lucky Generals and Directing duo Si & Ad, represented by Academy Films, The Mill have helped bring to life three star-studded spots for Yorkshire Tea's new campaign ‘Where Everything’s Done Proper’.
Each at thirty seconds long, the spots take a humorous approach to communicating the brand’s core message, all with the help of legendary TV presenter Michael Parkinson, Olympic sibling duo the Brownlee brothers, and world-famous band, the Kaiser Chiefs.
The trio of adverts depict a series of comic scenarios aimed at demonstrating Yorkshire Tea’s unwavering passion and uncompromising dedication to doing things properly.
Mill Creative Director and 2D Lead Artist, Andrew 'Barnsley' Wood, comments on working across the three spots for the campaign;
‘The first two spots were relatively simple focusing on clean up work and joining shots together. It was the final film with the Brownlee brothers that was slightly more complicated. The boys coming out of the 'lake' was filmed at Yorkshire Tea HQ in Harrogate, we then filmed the water that fills the lake near Penistone, with water elements also shot in Trent reservoirs, and comp’d in later.
The team were fantastic to work with throughout, and it was a really nice project to be a part of’.
Mill Colourist James Bamford comments further on the project;
‘All three spots needed to have that feeling of consistency across them, so a large part of the final grade was just ensuring they all felt part of the same campaign and communicated the same feeling.
The spot with Michael Parkinson was a nice, simple bit to work on, it was enjoyable to do a really clean, straightforward grade, the main focus being to create a balance through the shots.
The Brownlee brothers were shot in flat light, which we didn't want to stray away from too much as the spot developed and moved through different settings.
It was important to communicate the winter weather too, which the manipulation of lighting and grade allowed us to do. Another challenge was maintaining the Yorkshire Tea branding colour throughout in a way that wasn’t too garish but was still apparent. Working with such an authentic brand meant that everything was quite aesthetically pleasing and light but clever grade work just helped to enhance that.
The Kaiser Chiefs spot was also a fun one to work on, but that required us to use a slightly more dynamic grade to help make the panning shots between the receptionist and the band fit better. The no-fuss feel of the grade really resonates with the brand’s message in this campaign.’
