Using a mixture of stock footage, 35mm and 16mm film, the spot nostalgically takes viewers on a journey exploring the struggle and persistence it takes to become a sporting legend. The ad begins with Wiggins on the open road as he cycles up a steep and defiant hill, it then shifts to childhood memories of him watching cyclists on television and being made fun of for his passion at school. His story reflects Skoda’s initiative to inspire consumers to ‘make their own choices’ and be ‘driven by something different’, all in all making this a highly uplifting and motivational spot.
Mill Head Colourist Seamus O’Kane explains, 'The intensity that Director Martin Krejci wanted to make obvious throughout this spot was heightened by him choosing to shoot on film. Working with the scanned images gave us a different depth and palette to work with whilst firmly placing the narrative into a personal space.
The very natural capture and blending of light again gave the images a deeply emotional feel. This was a refreshingly cinematic spot to work with and delivered a great deal of satisfaction.’
