Mill+ collaborated with Dentsu Japanto create the innovative ‘Light Trace’ for the Honda Accord sport hybrid. Set in the not-too-distant future, the spot reveals the electrifying manifestation of the vehicle.
Led by Mill+ Director Andrew Proctor, the VFX team developed a complex light system to showcase new elements that make the Accord truly groundbreaking. To transition the virtual features into materialized objects, the artists used holograms for the car and engine. Staying true to the futuristic concept design, Mill+ created a partial set with CG assets to bring the engineering lab to life.
Andrew explains, “I love designing worlds. It’s always fun developing an entire virtual environment. The project had an interesting balance of starting digitally with concept art, then shooting with real actors on set, then finishing in digital again. Our 2D Lead, Martin [Karlsson], and 3D Lead, Matt [Bohnert], did a great job making the shots look interesting and beautiful. String and Tins also really brought the piece together with an amazing sound design. It is always great collaborating with their London studio.
