Working with BBH and CANADA The Mill created this fun, feel good spot for Chupa Chups featuring a mischievous group of youths playing hide and seek in a department store after hours.
The fun filled spot sees children and young adults playing an epic game of hide and seek, some even appearing to have super hiding powers, as they cling to ceilings and pop in and out of furniture in the playground of a large department store. The ad reflects the longevity of everyone’s favourite lollipop brand and it’s commitment to providing a continuously fun confectionery product by appealing to everyone’s inner child.
'The carefully choreographed direction and the theatrical sense of light gave a powerful style with a real sense of both the filmic inspiration and ambition.
The overriding emotions within these spots are excitement and suspense which are perfectly captured within the game of hide and seek. The excitement of the chase and the suspense of outwitting the hunter were visually expressed using light and shadow and a depth of colour.
I followed the provided contrast and played with the tonality and light within areas that drew the viewers eye thus heightening the surprise as figures burst from the shadows. The build up to the reveal and the juxtaposition of the characters in time was seamlessly achieved and gives these spots a complex cinematic narrative.'
