The barman-who croons in a piercing Bee Gees falsetto-shepherds our hero from darkness into light. To showcase the new 'Clear Character' theme of Bundaberg Five Rum, the Mill team helped create the stylized look of the glowing, fantastical white environment throughout the spot, explain our VFX Supervisors Sarah Eim and Phil Crowe. Fun touches of strong lens flares, glows and bling accent the distinctive characters and environment. And set extensions and matte paintings were also incorporated to bring the white world together, they add.
"From the minute we stepped on set, we knew it was going to be another Kuntz corker," Crowe laughs. "It was great to push the comedy into unexpected places and be a part of the team on a very memorable commercial!"
Both the agency and Kuntz were keen to convey the polar opposite of blasé, as evidenced when 'Clear Character' resolves with an unexpected twist. The last scene features the barman and our hero riding skyward on a giant CG bottle of Bundaberg Five. Our barman belts out a song verse that could shatter a window and instead manages to implode himself into a flock of gold CG birds.
