On March 13th of this year, Mill ECD Rama Allen and Colourist Mikey Rossiter took to the SXSW stage, joined by Neuroscientist Bevil Conway for '1+2 = Blue: The Science of Colour In Film.'
Together the Director, Colourist and Scientist joined forces to demonstrate the effect of colour on the human brain, and how filmmakers use colour to alter our perception, emotion, and cognition.
During the discussion, Colourist Mikey Rossiter offered a glimpse into his creative process by grading film live on stage.
A test subject was hooked up to EEG, heart rate and galvanic skin response sensors to collect biometric data based on the subject’s emotional response to various color stimuli. The data was visualized by the Mood Bling, a Mill LAB biometric art experiment that generates realtime motion sculptures in response to a user’s emotional state.
