Focusing on the sporting efforts and achievements of South Sudan, the newest country to be recognized by the IOC, the spot follows South Sudanese athlete Margret Rumat Rumat Hassan in her quest to be the first competitor to represent South Sudan on the country’s Olympic team.
Samsung Mobile celebrates this iconic moment in modern South Sudanese history by documenting Margret's hopeful journey towards the Olympic Games, fueled by the love and support of her fans and the help of the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and Gear IconX.
Head of Colour Fergus McCall graded the spot, adding to the vibrant intensity of the film. He comments, “We tried to capture the heat, joy and colour of South Sudan without becoming cliched, before contrasting this with the intensity and focus of a runner just before their big race.”
The Mill’s team of VFX artists, led by VFX Supervisor Nathan Kane worked to integrate a series of rich visuals that tied together and enhanced the narrative, such as a fully CG plane crafted by the 3D team, who also generated crowds to fill a CG render of the Rio Olympic stadium. These assets were seamlessly integrated into the live action shots, initially captured in Tanzania, to transport viewers from Africa to Brazil.
