The ad focuses on the car itself and its beautiful simplicity. It sees the new Audi R8 spinning slowly, totally in control to the apt soundtrack of Dusty Springfield ‘Windmills Of Your Mind’. The camera focuses on various aspects of the new model before closing on a birds-eye shot, revealing a perfectly executed circular track which then seamlessly forms one of the four iconic Audi rings.
The unique camera angles focusing on the car were achieved using a Russian Arm which was the first time this has ever been mounted in a supercar. Shoot Supervisor, Peter Hodsman explains; "The key to creating the film's elegance and flow was the elaborate and ambitious camera rig; built to enable the viewer to get up-close and personal to the R8 performing its manoeuvres. In order to help the director Mark Jenkinson find the pace and proximity of the action, we previz-ed the setup prior to the shoot, exploring the camera speeds and choreography desired.
We finished the film in Nuke and Flame, enhancing the studio floor, tyre marks and removing any distracting shadows or reflections. It was important to be sympathetic to the plates; the aim being to focus on the elegance of the car filling the frame in the one shot whilst maintaining some of the mystery as to how it was shot.'
