Birds Eye’s new campaign encourages parents to get their children's ‘tails wagging’ which is quite literally the case in their latest spot ‘The Boy with a Tail’.
The ad opens with a young boy sat at his classroom desk when the school bell goes and he embarks on his journey home. The prospect of dinner gets his fully CG tail wagging and we see him running through forests, mountains, a garden of peas, across a beach and even past Captain Birds Eye himself. Leaving a path of destruction, the young boy arrives happy when his mum presents him with a plate of Fish Fingers and Garden Peas.
The Mill VFX team were key to creating the boy’s expressive tail, augmenting the surprised owl and enhancing all the skies as well as filling a crate with exploding peas. A warm grade by Seamus O’Kane compliments the nostalgic tone of the spot which stirs a feeling of childhood fondness for the classic Birds Eye dinner.
Head of Colour Seamus O’Kane says; "This beautiful spot was so naturally cinematic in concept that, when heightened by Jim's elegant direction and John's lighting, formed a grade that was deserving of a final shoot out to film. We built our grade on the original digital files and then, following the post work, put those back onto 35mm so as we could then grade the resultant film scans. The process heightens the story and the magical juxtaposition of fantasy rooted firmly in reality. It is a pleasing and elegantly satisfying piece that assumes a timeless quality. "
