The film, directed by Wever, sees a variety of individuals sharing their stories and the names of people close to them who have been directly affected by Cancer. The footage is a mixture of old looking VHS content and more modern looking shots. The VHS was included to create a feel of nostalgia and evoke a more emotional response from the viewer.
The message is clear – there is no better reason to join forces and ‘beat’ cancer now as cancer affects everybody at some point in their lives and the stories and efforts to raise money represented in the film are a reminder of this.
Mill Colourist Osin O’Driscoll explains how he worked to portray this important message in the grade, ‘this was a great job for an amazing cause. The brief for this job was to keep the natural beauty of the portraits and to accentuate the VHS style. We achieved this by adding extra saturation and adding some chromatic aberrations on the VHS material to give it a real life feel. For the portraits we took the opposite approach and started with a nice natural grade yet colourful grade.’
