Collaborating with Director Sam Pilling and Pulse Films, The Mill created this music promo, ‘Light it Up’, for electronic duo, Major Lazer, Nyla and Fuse ODG.
The spot, shot in Ghana, features scenes from a traditional Ghanian funeral ceremony and represents the coming together and rising up of people in times of sadness, 'lighting up’ what could potentially be a dark time. This concept is heightened by the muted black and white grade which stands juxtaposed to the words of the song, focusing on ‘light' and ‘fire'.
Lead 2D Artist Carl Norton explains, 'Sam managed to craft a beautifully photographic piece that we worked to stabilize, re-racking the movements within some of the shots to ensure the final edit maintained fluidity from one frame to another. The challenge was to do this with a sense of delicacy, ensuring that the integral sense of energy and movement within the film was not sacrificed.’
These elements were then pulled seamlessly together in the grade by Mill Colourist James Bamford, who used an iconic monochrome filter to give the promo it’s final, photographic look.
