The spot is inspired by the world of Special Agent, James Bond linking it to the precise tools from Gillette that together prepare men for their own Bond Moments and promoting the new film 'SPECTRE.'
Features tons of different, action packed Bond sequences all with different effects added by The Mill's 2D and 3D teams, the spot elevates the thrill and excitement that is expected from anything 007 touches. Fireballs, shattering glass and explosions are the types of elements VFX artist live for, and 'Bond Moments' does not disappoint.
The spot kicks off with James Bond skydiving out of an airplane. The Mill’s 3D team created a full CG aircraft interior for this shot. As the spot carry’s on, the action builds. A bespoke helicopter was created by The Mill, especially for this commercial. The Aston Martin in the next scene was driven by a stunt driver, and the 3D team replaced the driver with a gorgeous Bond girl.
The crashing smoke stacks scene was not part of the original script. The team decided to add it while on set in order to pack more action and adventure into the scene. The CG team added bricks and smoke and the 2D team composited the smoke stack into an alleyway as the car is speeding away.
Bond is seen in full action jumping from rooftop to rooftop. A stuntman was used to jump from the rooftop into the window, with the camera man following on a bungie cord. The breaking glass was then added by the 3D team.
Special Agent 007 is seen in many different cities throughout the spot. The 2D team added backgrounds to distinguish each city. Set extensions were added in numerous shots and matte paintings were created by Mill artists to add detail and texture to each cityscape.
2D Artist Ben Kwok adds,"The trickiest thing about this spot is that almost every shot is the money shot. There are so many set pieces all strung together as these kind of Bond-esque vignettes, each of which could be the center piece of a smaller job. From shot to shot, we were dealing with completely different lighting environments, characters and vfx challenges. As a team we were given the freedom to do what we thought would look best, while keeping it all in the Bond universe; a cool, composed yet dynamic and dramatic feel to everything."
Christian Nielsen, Lead 3D Artist says of the shoot, "It was quite an intense shoot, and we shot at a number of locations over the course of five days - Iceland, Madrid and Barcelona. At many times we shot in the middle of rush hour so we only had minutes to shoot. This gave us some unpredicted elements that added a lot more realism."
