Working with Miami-based agency Zubi Advertising, animation directors Angus and Yann decided Miami was in fact the perfect American suburban setting to film this playful spot.“The robots were very fun to design” says Yann. “We were inspired by the tin toys of the 50’s and Mill+ recreated about 15 new designs. The robots are a metaphor for the lack of freedom that this car is the answer to, so the robots we designed had to be dependent on their mechanism and use old school limited design. It was also important that each toy’s design was easily readable for the small amount of time that it appeared on screen. We then featured obvious limitations like the wind up keys on their backs.” Mill+ then further highlighted the robots ‘limitations’ in the animation by making them appear hesitant, struggling, and even clumsy at times.
