Alex Hammond, lead 3D artist comments, "Footage of the Dreamliner was shot on the ground, so our biggest challenge was to adapt this in CG in order to make it look as though it was flying high above the clouds. Through re-projecting the footage onto a CG shell of the plane we could add extra reflections and lighting to give it the impression it was in the sky. We also sourced a lot of real skies and cloud plates taken from various trips artists had been on and used this material to create realistic backgrounds for the plane to be composited into. Extra clouds were added in CG to realistically embed the Dreamliner into these made up shots."
British Airways has also created a social media campaign to coincide with the launch of its Dreamliner and superjumbo A380 jets, which are featured in the ad. They are inviting Twitter users to tweet a message using #racetheplane to @British_Airways. Each tweet will fuel a virtual version of the aircraft, racing against real flights, with prizes to be won.
