Beyonce's renaissance -inspired video for her collaboration with Drake on 'Mine' picks up on the theme of isolation presented in her lyrics. The promo, directed by Pierre Debusschere and shot in Australia, references Rene Magritte's painting 'The Lovers', which, like the video, shows a couple kissing with their heads enshrouded by white Fabric.
Matt Osborne, Mill colourist, graded the piece in collaboration with Pierre, he comments, "Much of this video was inspired by old renaissance paintings. I wanted to use similar colours and contrast that helped reinforce this idea, paying particular effort on skin tones, giving her a healthy glow and windowing the eyes tot let the image pop.
'The Lovers' was on display as part of a retrospective at New York's MOMA at the time of the video's release, but in this promo you can see the shirts inscribed with the words 'Yours' and 'Mine'.
