CP+B London created this global ad campaign for Turkish Airlines featuring international football stars, Didier Drogba and Lionel Messi, racing to find the most epic food on the planet.
The ad, directed by Joseph Kahn, sees Drogba travel the world, trying delectable local cuisines only to find that Messi has pipped him to the post, and already has his photo mounted on the wall.
The Mill's VFX team created a series of montage map scenes as well as backgrounds, beauty extensions, moving picture frames and a fully CG plane.
Lead 2D artist Pete Hodsman comments, "The Indiana Jones influenced map sequences were created in After Effects using cloud references, designed map layouts and textures.
We enhanced each of the live action film sets using layers, adding extensions and comping the picture frames onto the walls, as creating the external Japan scenes from scratch, using live action plates of Drogba filmed in a studio and comping him onto of matte paintings, footage and CG snow effects created in Maya and Houdini.
The filmed sets were very good, but we added layers to all of them to enhance their situation. ie. Food beauty, background scene extension, picture frames on the walls, putting the plane in the sky. We created the snow and japan external scenes using drogba filmed in a studio and elements consiting of matte painting, footage and CG snow effects created in Maya and Houdini.
The final plane shot was created in CG, with the team developing a continuous camera movement from plane interior to exterior by combining layered live action plates of the interior, with a full CG render of the plane… revealing the final gag."
Turkish Airlines will also be launching a competition to upload customers own epic food travel photos to win a trip to the locations in the commercial.
