Working with Tetley one again, agency Dare were keen to take the animated characters out into the day to day reality as explained by Mill Producer Tracey Khan, "Bringing the Tetley tea folk out of retirement was great. But bringing them into the big wide world and onto a safari was really exciting. Getting the costumes spot on was integral to the film so the creatives, Richard Stoney and Dave Hobbs at MCBD/Dare alongside our cell animator, Richard Olive, were all able to do this incredibly well."
Our 3D Lead, Francois Roisin describes the work the 3D team created: "I was required to make a 3D elephant trunk that hugs one of the 2D Tetley characters. The trick was to make it look as realistic as possible while interacting with an animated character and I achieved this by using subtle textures from an actual elephant trunk. The other tricky part was to animate the trunk at 25 fps next to a 2D character animated at 12fps, this can cause a jittering effect so to alleviate this I was required to counter balance in order to get a flowing result."
We think the team definitely deserve to put their feet up for a well-deserved cup of 'Redbush'!
