Figliulo & Partners worked with Imperial Woodpecker, director Stacy Wall and The Mill on 'Count on It,' continuing the quirky 'Framily' campaign for Sprint.
The framily ventures outside of the house, with son Chuck played by SNL cast member Kyle Mooney stuck on the side of the road with a busted, smoking motorcycle, accompanied by his goth framily friend Gor-don. The rest of the framily is at a bowling alley, where hamster dad Tom Frobinson is acting as his own bowling ball! After answering his son's call for help, Tom runs, or more accurately rolls to the rescue.
Mr. Frobinson was brought to life using a combination of 2D and CG techniques. 2D Lead and shoot supervisor Keith Sullivan explains: "Some new challenges were introduced to the team for this spot. In the past we've had the hamster dad static in the house, but now we have him running and talking on the phone at the same time. We did some research into how a phone could exist in the plastic ball while it's moving, and decided the phone should bounce along inside the ball. This was achieved by using 2D compositing.
"For the sequence of Tom Frobinson running through the bowling ball tunnel, the on-set team set up a track and rig that pulled the plastic ball along slowly, via rods installed into each side. The rods were then connected to the camera. When the camera moved through the tunnel the ball was pulled forwards, started spinning and the hamster started running. The 2D team removed the rig, enhanced the hamster so it could talk and added the phone for a pristine final scene."
