The Mill had their own epic BOOM moment replicating crowds with complete believability via the widely-used software, Massive. Starting with empty stadium shots, the production crew then shot various sections of smaller crowds. Utilizing these references, CG Artists Matt Longwell, Aaron Grove and Sebastian Wernicke partnered with Flame Artist Giles Cheetham to generate an authentic-looking crowd. The 3D team added bespoke features such as unique flags and shirtless fans to enhance believability. They also concentrated on precise timing of the crowd's applause and color and scale, so that the rows matched.
So sports spectators, keep your eyes open for that next BOOM.
