Award-winning stunt driver Martin Ivanov is the protagonist behind the wheel, drawing for his gripping performance from experience in films such as The Bourne Ultimatum and Quantum of Solace, and as a Russian Rally racer.
Directed by Nicolai Fuglsig and lensed by Academy Award-nominated DP Ben Seresin, the cinematic piece was a gem to work on, say The Mill Lead 2D Artists Tara DeMarco and Andy Bate. "It was already a gorgeous spot that and we just added touches to make it even more special," DeMarco says. The 2D team duplicated existing cars and people in the opening shots to heighten the sense of claustrophobia. They also did removal of camera crews and previous takes' marks on the road to ensure the best angle action shots made the cut. 'Endangered Species' opening shot includes a CG car and several police cars, which lend to its grand scope.
Graded by Mill Head of Telecine Adam Scott, the steely neutral palate complements Fuglsig's almost clinically precise car chase. Scott worked closely with twofifteenmccann's team referencing graded stills from Seresin to arrive at 'Endangered Species' clean template. And it's one conducive to keeping all eyes glued on our driver.
