The first edition of The Directors Lounge 49 Hamburg (RegieLounge) took place last night at Hühnerposten, following previous successful editions in Dusseldorf and Berlin.

An audience of over 1,500 advertising, music and film folk gathered in the ex post office as event host Steffen Gentis, BBDO Germany’s Head of TV, shone a spotlight on seven up and coming directors from all over Germany and across Europe.

Supported by NHB, Adstream, MarkenFilm, Proximity Germany, Universal Music Group and Interone with music from NHB music, the big screen showcased key pieces of work from each of these commercial, music and film directors as Steffen interviewed them on their style, influences and what makes them want to direct.

1) Nalle Sjöblad / Sauna International:

Nalle’s work resonates from his love of creating and telling stories. His style has a very unique look and feel, with a strong use of saturated, muted aesthetic and symmetry of shots.

2) John Grammatico / Bakery Films:

John believes that with every project comes another opportunity to “Find the Funny” in a way that is uniquely his own. A master of dialogue driven comedy, both for US and European clients, makes him the perfect guy to make you smile in almost every language possible. With over 5 million YouTube hits, John’s Breast Cancer PSA, “Your Man Reminder” has recently won TED’S Ideas Worth Spreading and a Webby Award, among others. In his free time he continues to write for both the page and screen. His passion for film making and finding a common truth is what drives it all. “To invite an audience to experience a story through your eyes…is quite a feeling.”

3) Robin Polak / Markenfilm:

Robin believes in visual storytelling and in the power of making the ordinary more beautiful, playing with time and the technical to tell a story, and loves a food spot.

4) Florian Meimberg / Rabbicornfilms:

From a background of agency creative and CD, Florian moved into directing and believes his creative agency experience has helped and shaped his directing approach.

5) Marcelo Burgos / MyPony:

As a highly successful and awarded creative and CD, Marcelo has channeled his creative mind into big brand campaigns working exclusively on one key project at a time.

6) Olaf Van Gerwen / Olaf Van Gerwen:

Olaf started out as an offline editor, followed by DOP work, then onto directing for the last 7 years. His work as DOP brought a highly visual signature style to his work, which is reflected in his mainly food and dairy spots.

7) Remo Camerota / Great Guns:

His background encompasses the lot -  film, visual arts, design, photography, interactive media, illustration and animation. Remo considers himself the modern day Renaissance man and the sheer volume and variety of his work is quite awe inspiring.
